Last year while visiting the UK, I spent a quick 48 hours in Edinburgh. When I had the chance to return recently, I was fortunate enough to explore the Scottish Highlands. This was something I had wanted to do for some time and I was so happy that I made time. I was able to experience the beauty of Scotland and also incorporate my travels into my ongoing wellness journey.

Like many others, I have been on a wellness journey over the past several years. Nutrition and activity remain top priorities, but meditation and enjoying nature now hold equal importance for me.
This is where the Scotland Highlands comes into play in my wellness journey. This area of the country brings together nature’s tranquility and ancient history to provide a unique travel experience. While I have always been into yoga, meditation is something that has taken me some time to incorporate regularly into my wellness routine. Have you ever tried meditating, only for your mind to start racing? Why all of a sudden am I thinking about the dress I wore to the homecoming dance 20 years ago? I know this can’t just be me.
Lately, I have found meditating while traveling to be a game-changer. Meditation eases travel stress, improves my mental state, and encourages mindfulness away from phones and social media.
Tour Options
I decided to book a one-day tour through Rabbie’s. While there are several options for tours, Rabbie’s offers different options and this worked great for me. The tour starts bright and early with pickup at the local bus station in Edinburgh at 7:30 am. The itinerary covered Rannoch Moor, Roy Bridge, Glencoe, Great Glen, Loch Ness, Callander, ending back in Edinburgh by 8 pm. While the day is certainly long, it was well worth the time spent.
If you book this trip, pack healthy snacks, lunch, and drinks. Many food options along the way are quick but not particularly fresh or healthy. I was glad that I brought a Huel, fresh fruit, and plenty of water.
Perhaps you want a more laid-back approach to visiting the highlands. You can certainly rent a vehicle and make the trip on your own. It may cost more with accommodations, vehicle rental, and food, depending on your travel style. The tour suited me, but others may prefer a slower pace to enjoy attractions longer.
I traveled solo for this trip, and I felt completely safe on the Rabbie’s tour. There were also several other solo travelers, which made it even better. It was wonderful to connect and chat with people from all over the world.
